Caught in the Act!

They say it’s only a crime if you get caught, and boy did I get busted. Not only did Doc catch me in the act but I had a very weak alibi when she asked me why I would do such a thing.

It all started very innocently at about 9:30am on Monday while Doc was upstairs in her office doing video counseling on her computer. I was feeling rather bored as it’s not very interesting to just stay in the office with Doc. Since the patients are on the computer screen, what am I supposed to do? As there was no role for me in the counseling session I decided to go downstairs. At first, I kept myself busy by looking out the window at the squirrels, but that became boring quickly, so I chewed on a bone for a while, but I soon tired of that too. I didn’t feel like a nap, so I started looking around the house for something to occupy my time. That is when I looked over to this wicker basket that Doc keeps magazines in.

I must admit that I did hear that little voice in my head that said, “Don’t do it Walter,” but even though I am 13 months old, I still have puppy brain, so I ignored it. Well, that was the rationalization I used to justify my behavior. I started by pulling out just one magazine and started ripping it apart with my teeth and scattered the paper all over the house. That was so much fun I drug the entire basket of magazines across the floor and that is when I knocked into the piano and some wooden statues and a picture frame fell down making such a loud noise that both Doc and the patient on the computer screen heard the noise. I heard Doc yell down the stairs “Walter, what on earth is going on.” I was surprised and a little relieved she did not come running down the steps to investigate, but after all, the patients come first. Thinking she didn’t care, I kept on ripping pages out and when I was done with that magazine, I started on the next one.

About five minutes later, Doc came pounding down the steps before I could hide the evidence. She found me lying in the pile of paper with some still hanging out of my mouth. To my surprise, when Doc looked around the room, she burst out laughing. There was paper everywhere in the house including the bedroom, living room, kitchen and hall. I looked so guilty and ridiculous she couldn’t get mad. Instead, she took out her camera to take a picture of the mess. She looked at me and said, "Well, I wasn’t sure what I would write about for your blog this week, but you just made it easier” she said with a smile.

Later that evening Doc told me that she feels that my behavior has changed since I got neutered, and not in a good way, so she is taking me somewhere on Thursday for an evaluation, whatever that means. So, stay tuned to find out what that is all about.
