Cuteness Can Cure Anything

It may sound strange, but this puppy loves to go to see his veterinarian and all the nice people that work there. So, when Doc told me to get in the car because we needed to go for my first annual checkup, I happily jumped into the back seat. Luckily, we live close by as I had a hard time containing my excitement.

As soon as we got to the door, we were greeted by the staff, and I sat like a good boy so I could get my first of many treats. The first thing they did was weigh me and sometimes it’s hard to be still so they can get my true weight, but they finally decided that I weighed a healthy 80 pounds.

Next, we were led back to the exam room and before long I could hear Dr. R.’s voice in the hall and I started wagging my tail before he even opened the door. You might think that’s a strange reaction given the last time I saw him he neutered me, but hey, you need to forgive and move on. Dr. R.  took out his stethoscope to listen to my heart and lungs while I wiggled around and dove under the desk looking for a treat he dropped on the floor. After he was done with the exam, I got more treats while he talked to Doc about needing a blood draw and how many shots I would get. “Shots and a blood draw? I thought to myself, no one conferred with me about that.” Before I could think too hard, here came the vet tecs with needles in hand and guess what, there were more treats involved so I decided to cooperate.

When I saw the size of the needles, I admit that I felt a little nervous and then I peed on the towel on the floor because I really did have to go. I had tried to alert Doc when she was talking to my Vet, but she kind of ignored me. But no one got mad and they went on with the blood draw. Next Doc asked them to give me a quick pedicure since I was there, so they placed me on my side, gave me even more treats and rubbed my belly, while one of them clipped my nails and both told me what a sweet and good boy I was being.

After they were done, it was time to pay the bill and then go home, but not before I got one extra dog treat. On the way home I told Doc that I should win the best patient award. Doc responded that I should be awarded for running a very successful treat extortion scheme. It’s not my fault that people think I’m cute.
