Welcome Fall!
Whoever invented Fall knew what they were doing! What a beautiful season. I was only about 12 weeks old this time last year, so I didn’t have a true appreciation of everything this time of year has to offer. But I will try my best to list all the things I love and pay homage to this beautiful weather.
As a double coated dog, the first thing I love is that the weather is cooler. I am not a fan of the heat of summer and mostly stayed inside near the air conditioner vents, so it’s nice to be able to go out, run around and not overheat. As a result, Doc can walk me around at work between buildings to see patients and staff and not worry about me burning my paws on the hot blacktop. There is nothing better than having a job where my sole purpose is to comfort and cheer people up.
I have also noticed that the squirrels are more active in our yard. I watch them from the window burying nuts and then I go out, chase the squirrel back up in the tree and then dig up the nut and eat it. I got scolded by Doc the other day when she saw me doing that. She said the squirrels are part of our family because they live in our yard and how would I like it if they came into the house and ate my dog food. Well, I guess she does have a point.
The other thing I like about fall is that last Saturday I officially finished my dog training classes. Now Doc and I will continue to work together to make sure I follow my commands. This week Doc has been playing a fun game with me outside called “drop it,” where I must drop one tennis ball before she throws the next one for me to chase. I’m no dummy and am suspicious that she is teaching me this so that I will learn to drop the things I put in my mouth like rocks and Kleenex that I am not supposed to eat.
Fall also means that I need to go to see my veterinarian this week to get my first yearly physical and be updated on my shots. I like my vet, but I am not sure about the shots. Hopefully they will give me treats if I am a good boy. I’ll let you know how that visit turns out.
Until then, get outside, play in the leaves and enjoy the fall weather
